Overview
SUMMER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (INCOMING TK/K-5th Grade) – will be offered at two Palos Verdes Peninsula Elementary Schools. Students at each grade level will be taught by highly qualified and experienced PVPUSD teachers. Students will experience an exciting, fun-filled adventure in learning that will include reviewing and reinforcing current grade level skills and concepts as well as previewing standards to be covered in the ensuing year using art, singing, dancing, movement and a variety of “hands on” activities intended to bring learning alive!

Summer Elementary School will take place Monday – Friday, June 17 – July 12, 2023. (Dates subject to change)
(Please note that there will be no school on Wednesday June 19th, Thursday, July 4th and Friday, July 5th)

Tuition
Tuition for Summer Elementary School is $675 for the four-week program.
Please review the Changes and Refunds page before purchasing your summer school class.
A 50% tuition discount is available for any student enrolled in the PVPUSD Free and Reduced Price Meal Program or similar program at their home school district. All families are required to complete our PVPSS Discount Application to receive a coupon code prior to registration. You will be required to upload proof of assistance (a copy of the PVPUSD Free and Reduced Price Meal Program confirmation letter). If you have any questions about eligibility, please email help@pvpss.com. If you qualify for the discount, please do not register without the COUPON CODE as no refunds will be given.

Summer Elementary School will take place at two PVPUSD Elementary Schools (locations TBD).
TK & Kindergarten (POINT VICENTE)
TK and Kindergartners will splash into summer by doing a variety of hands-on activities with our themes including both the Ocean and Camping. Children will be engaged doing various STEAM lessons that consist of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. We will also focus on reading readiness skills and learning through play, movement, music and high-quality literature. Please join us this summer. We will have fun while also getting ready for our next steps into TK/Kindergarten.

TK & Kindergarten (SOLEADO)
The TK and Kindergarten programs will dive deep into the ocean and explore a variety of ocean creatures. We will be conducting science experiments, weekly cooking/food crafts and art projects. Not only will we be having many hands-on experiences, we will also be learning our letters/sounds and numbers. For the next four weeks, we will learn through song, work on our fine motor skills, practice our name, and have fun. The students will be able to explore, create, and construct. Join us for a fun summer experience!

1st Grade (POINT VICENTE)
Come join us for a FUN-filled adventure of active learning through movement, art, music, dance, exploration, creating, writing, and growing. Your child will be excited to gain knowledge in reading, writing, math, science, and social skills in a nurturing, encouraging, creative and welcoming environment. An emphasis will be placed on friendship and citizenship skills using respect, honesty, compassion, cooperation, optimism, gratitude and kindness. The classroom will be alive with science and engineering, art, readers theater, hands on activities, while focusing on the core topics of reading and math. Looking forward to a summer of smiles and bundles of fun!

1st Grade (SOLEADO)
Come join us for a fun-filled, “Get Ready for 1st Grade” 4-week adventure of silly stories, amazing animals, rockets to the moon, and fairy tales. The classroom will be alive with science and engineering, art, readers theater, and hands on activities, while focusing on the core topics of reading and math. Looking forward to a summer of smiles, growth, and bundles of fun!

2nd Grade (POINT VICENTE)
The emphasis of this creative, engaging and empowering Summer School program is Fun, Fun, FUN! Students will experience an exciting, enjoyable adventure in learning that will include reviewing and reinforcing current grade-level skills and concepts, as well as previewing standards that will be covered in Second Grade Reading, Writing and Math. Through art, singing, dancing, movement, games, a play performance, and a variety of hands-on activities, learning will come alive! In addition, students will get reacquainted with their peers by experiencing enjoyable icebreakers and friendship bonding exercises.

2nd Grade (SOLEADO)
This summer the second grade Summer School program will be filled with lots of fun, creative and engaging activities. Through a variety of hands-on activities in Science, Math, Reading Writing and Art learning will come alive. Our focus through these activities will include review and reinforcement of current grade level skills and concepts as well as previewing for the new school year. In addition, students will enjoy friendship bonding exercises. Join us for some fun!

3rd Grade (POINT VICENTE)
Incoming third graders will spend the summer creating art, doing experiments, acting out Reader’s Theater plays, writing stories, exploring math concepts, singing, and playing games. Our focus will be on reinforcing current grade-level skills in reading, writing, math, and science while encouraging creativity, joy of learning, and positive social interactions. This summer program will help build a solid foundation for students to transition to upper elementary. Join us for a summer of fun and exploration!

3rd Grade (SOLEADO)
Incoming third graders will spend the summer creating art, doing experiments, acting out Reader’s Theater plays, writing stories, exploring math concepts, singing, and playing games. Our focus will be on reinforcing current grade-level skills in reading, writing, math, and science while encouraging creativity, joy of learning, and positive social interactions. This summer program will help build a solid foundation to support students in their transition to upper elementary. Join us for a summer of fun and exploration!

4th Grade (POINT VICENTE)
Incoming 4th graders will have a lot of fun this summer! Get ready to dive into a world of stories. There will be plenty of fun stories that will be read, and you will get the chance to create your own descriptive narratives. We will have lots of fun preparing for 4th grade math through games and hands-on activities. Discover and learn about different science concepts through fun hands-on activities and experiments. And of course, there will be plenty of different art projects to work on.

4th Grade (SOLEADO)
This summer, “All roads lead to Rome”! Come enjoy math, writing, science, and social studies through the lens of Ancient Rome! We will be creating mosaic artwork just like the Romans as well as telling stories through the art of copper tooling. Students will learn how to write on a wax tablet they will make just like a Roman student. Using math, students will create a Roman arch as used in building the aqueducts and don’t forget to figure out how much tax to collect! We will also create a reader’s theater that is set in Ancient Rome depicting what life was like for its citizens. Hidden within the activities, students will be reviewing 3rd grade concepts and previewing 4th. So, come spend a month of fun learning because we know, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”!

5th Grade (POINT VICENTE)
The 5th Grade Summer School will be a fun, engaging and interactive preparation for 5th grade. Students will review concepts covered in 4th grade while previewing topics that will be further developed in their 5th grade year. Students will enjoy this interactive and hands-on learning experience through art, science, movement, and mindfulness to create a unique and well-rounded experience for these incoming 5th graders.

5th Grade (SOLEADO)
The 5th Grade Summer School will be a fun, engaging and interactive preparation for 5th grade. Students will be working on their math skills through project-based learning, practice reading through the exploration of short stories, express themselves as writers and enjoy hands-on science activities to learn and reinforce skills. Students will also be able to enjoy art, movement, and mindfulness to create a unique and well-rounded experience for these incoming 5th graders.

BEFORE & AFTER ELEMENTARY SUMMER SCHOOL CARE
PV Kids’ Corner
PV Kids’ Corner will offer Before and After-School Care to students attending Summer Elementary 2023 at Soleado Elementary School. Parents enjoy the safety and convenience of children remaining on campus before and after summer school. The program is available for the full 4-week session.

Full-Time Program Hours 7:00am-8:30am Class Time AND 12:00pm Dismissal to 6:00pm
Enrichment Classes
PEF is pleased to introduce Summer Enrichment classes for those interested in extending their Summer Elementary school day or students interested attending only afternoon classes at both of our elementary campus sites.
Enrichment classes will be offered in one week increments.
Students do not need to be enrolled in PVPUSD to participate in the Summer Enrichment classes. Campers will meet in the MPR each day at noon. Lunch and recess will take place from 12:00pm – 12:30pm. Campers are required to bring a brown-bag lunch daily. There is no food for purchase. Water is available. At 12:30pm campers will break into their class selections. At 3:00pm campers will be walked to the drop off / pick up zone and parents and/or guardians will sign their child out. Hats are encouraged as campers will spend time outside and we expect lots of sunshine each day.
